David Wayne Hammock, 18, of Sallisaw was originally set to go to trial Monday, but the case was taken off the spring jury docket after his court-appointed defense attorney, John Sawney, asked for a continuance, Jeff Sheridan, assistant district attorney, said.
"It will absolutely be in the fall," Sheridan said Monday.
Hammock is charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary, relating to the fire. If convicted, he could receive a maximum sentence of 32 years in prison. Hammock is also facing two other counts of second-degree burglary, unrelated to the high school arson, for the December burglary of a Sallisaw liquor store. He is currently being held in the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw with no bond set.
Hammock entered a plea of not guilty in Sequoyah County District Court in October to the charges related to the fire.
