POTEAU - The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds got some strong performances from Annie Hadley and Tasha Shockey at their first track meet of the 2004 outdoor season.

Hadley, a senior, earned 16 points for the Lady Diamonds at last week's Poteau Invitational. She won the long jump with an effort of 15 feet, 10 inches and placed third in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 10 inches.

Freshman Shockey made her varsity debut with a gold medal in the shot put (33 feet) and came in fourth in the discus.

Roland, spurred by the success of jumpers Jeremiah Johnson and Casey Biles, had the most success of the county's boys teams at the meet. The Rangers tallied 19 points and got 14 of those in the high jump competition. Johnson and Biles both jumped 6-0 to get second and third in the event.

Sallisaw's boys team was paced by the efforts of Job Thomas, who was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.

Sallisaw junior Jody Kilpatrick came in fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18-8.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
