I am a skeptic. I try to find good in all things and people but hate to have the wool pulled over my eyes or be taken for a fool.
For instance, if someone were to tell me that a man could emotionally, verbally, and physically abuse their wife and children, be put in jail for drug and alcohol abuse, then be convicted of manslaughter and incarcerated, only to be free less than a year later, I would say "Unbelievable!"
Unfortunately, this very thing has happened in Sallisaw. Shawn Dees was convicted of manslaughter and jailed, only to be released less than a year later, free to walk back into his children's lives as if he had done no wrong.
Why should he have any rights what so ever to children. What of their mother's rights? The mother that worked three jobs to keep from losing her home and keep food in her children's bellies. The mother that sacrificed to put herself through nursing school in order to give her children a better life. The mother who remarried a wonderful man who has supported her, and raised her two boys for almost three years as if they were his own. What of the rights of honest decent people who abide by the law and do their best?
Shawn Dees has had every break possible and deserves nothing! He thinks the rules don't apply to him, and sadly it looks as though he is right. There is definitely a flaw in the system when a thing like this is allowed to happen. Apparently certain people in Sequoyah County can abuse drugs, alcohol, and their family, be convicted of a felony, and still have more rights than you or I. Unbelievable!
