Tubbs said the vehicle's transmission was apparently leaking, which caused a small fire just west of the Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 59 intersection on Sallisaw's west side.
"That started a small grass fire," Tubbs reported.
Tubbs said a report that small children may have been trapped in the burning vehicle caused firefighters' adrenaline to escalate. He said there were children present, but they were not trapped.
Roy Fair, assistant fire chief, said the family was from Arkansas, and after the fires were extinguished, they were able to get the transmission line plugged well enough to drive to a repair garage.
