“Along with the opportunity to win the contest, the Sallisaw Youth Coalition will receive, a stipend of $1,000 to help cover the events they have planned for the competition, a video camera to help them document the progress of their program, which has been given the name Message Sent,” Rutherford said.
The coalition will be hosting several different events during National Youth Traffic Safety Month and will continue to work on their entry, Rutherford said.
“We are so proud of what the youth have already accomplished and look forward to working with them as they further this project,” Sharon Day of the Sallisaw New Opportunities Working (NOW) Coalition, said.
Emily Farmer, a teacher at Sallisaw High School, serves as the advisor to the project.
The youth coalition has already produced a video, which can be seen on YouTube and voting on the winner will be conducted via a Facebook page during the month of May, Rutherford said.
