Lyle Cantrell was charged March 3 with three counts of lewd molestation, forcible sodomy, and rape by instrumentation. He was also charged with lewd or indecent proposals or acts to a child under 16.
According to the report filed Feb. 22 by Sequoyah County Deputy Greg Cox, Cantrell allegedly began making sexual proposals to the 16-year-old victim when she was 8 years old.
During a 30-minute interview with the victim at the Help in Crisis Center in Sallisaw, the victim told Cindy Smith, district attorney investigator, that Cantrell made her pose for nude photos and she gave Smith very detailed descriptions of sexual encounters with Cantrell.
Two hours after speaking with the victim, authorities drove to Cantrell’s home and questioned him about the allegations made against him. At first Cantrell denied the allegations or any wrongdoing. While driving to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department Cantrell told Cox he wanted to talk when they got to the Sheriff’s Department.
“At the sheriff’s office Cantrell stated he did do things to the girl,” Cox said in his report.
“He said it went on for a couple of years. I told him that the victim said she had been molested from the age of 8 to the age of 14 and he stated it wasn’t that long,” Cox reported.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 a.m. May 25 at Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw. Cantrell is being held in the Sequoyah County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
