POTEAU - Sallisaw came within three strokes of winning its third golf tournament of the week, but had to settle for second on Thursday at the Poteau Invitational.

Poteau, led by medalist Ryan Guillet's 69, edged the Black Diamonds 298-301 to claim first place on the course at Choctaw Country Club.

Sallisaw was paced by senior Michael Anderson, who fired a 70 to finish second overall. Teammate Trent Whitekiller was third with a 71 and Blake Stuart also grabbed a top-10 finish, shooting a 78 to tie for sixth.

Poteau had four players place in the top 10 while snapping Sallisaw's string of tournament wins. The Diamonds had won at Mcalester on Monday and also claimed the championship at the Eastern Sequoyah County Invitational held Tuesday.

Quinton was third at the Poteau tournament with a team score of 336. Broken Bow finished fourth, the Poteau B team fifth, Roland sixth and Stigler seventh.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
