Check-in and lunch will be at 11:45 a.m. with tee-off time for the four-person scramble tournamentset for 1 p.m.
Golfers will compete for prizes throughout the day, with awards going to the top four teams. There will also be an individual prize for players closest to the hole, sponsored by Sallisaw Lumber Company. In addition, the first player to make a hole-in-one on number 3 will win a new pickup contributed by Blue Ribbon Auto Group of Sallisaw.
Sponsors for the event are Pepsi-Cola and Belle Point Beverages of Fort Smith.
The tournament is hosted by the CASC Committee for Excellence, with the goal of raising the money to provide at least 15 scholarships for Sequoyah County students to attend CASC-Sallisaw next fall.
"The event is part of our ongoing effort to provide scholarships to outstanding Sequoyah County high school students," said committee chairman Buddy Spencer. "Last year we provided 44 scholarships to students graduating from high schools throughout Sequoyah County to attend the CASC-Sallisaw campus. We want to increase that number this year, and this golf tournament is an effort to provide deserving students here in Sequoyah County the opportunity to get a college education."
The $660 scholarships, which will provide $330 in tuition per semester during the fall and spring semesters of 2004-2005, are awarded to students from every high school in Sequoyah County, with distribution based on the number of graduates. Last year, Sallisaw graduates received 10 scholarships; Muldrow nine; Roland seven; Vian five; Gore four; Central three; and Gans two.
"These scholarship recipients have the Sallisaw Committee for Excellence to thank for this scholarship program," said Garry Ivey, CEO of the CASC Development Foundation, which administers the scholarships. "Buddy Spencer and the committee members are to be applauded for their commitment to the young people of Sequoyah County. Without their hard work and efforts on behalf of these young people, this scholarship program would not exist. The CASC Development Foundation, and the students who will benefit from this program owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude."
Other Committee for Excellence members are Roger Sharp, Gary Folsum, Delores Mitchell, Jerry Hetherington, J.T. Stites, Gary Schaefer, Don Elwick, Don Armstrong, Bill Baker, Harry Scoufos and Jerry Smith.
