Drainage is poor

Dear Editor:

I have approached Commissioner Carter regarding a county drain problem on my road on several occasions; it's been 4 years now, without any results or action on the part of the Commissioner. Even the drains themselves have not been cleaned out in the 4 years of communication.

There is a county drain that is pointed at my property, so that whenever it rains we get flooded out.

The Forestry Department and the EPA say that a catch basin should have been put in, taking the water down to the natural flow, and that it is the county's job, and that all we needed to do was to contact Commissioner Carter to resolve the issue.

Commissioner Carter states that is was not his job and that for one million dollars we could fix the problem ourselves, without giving us any viable options to the problem.

We need a resolution. The property across the street floods, goes through the culvert and is pointed directly at my property. There are times when I have 18-plus inches of water standing around my house. Standing water is always a problem, but during these rains, when heavy like last night and today, we are so flooded that getting out of the house is not an option.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
