The Vian School Board took no action Monday night on filling a vacant board seat left by a board member who moved out of the district at the end of January.

Superintendent Lawrence Barnes said the board decided to wait until the next board meeting to fill Seat No. 3, which was vacated by Jack Rosenberg, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who moved to the Edmond area. Rosenberg had two more years left of his term. Barnes said the board has 60 days to appoint someone to fill the seat.

In other business, the board approved the re-employment of nine staff members for the 2006-7 school year, accepted the resignations of three others, and hired a golf coach. The board hired Grant Callison as golf coach for the 2005-6 golf season.

The board approved the re-employment of Bob Thomas as high school principal, Dr. Carla Wortman as middle school principal, Arland Callison as elementary school principal, Ann Hogan as federal programs director, Gail Kaufman as special programs director, Ray Jordan as athletics director, Dearl Anderson as transportation director, Scott Speer as maintenance director, and Geralynn Treadwell as food service director.

The board accepted the resignations of Debra Anderson as school nurse, Kim Booth as an elementary teacher, and Shannon Pack as federal programs secretary. Anderson's resignation was effective Feb. 8. Booth's resignation is effective at the end of the 2005-6 school year, and Pack's resignation will be effective as of Feb. 21.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
