An election for two positions on the Liberty Volunteer Firefighters Association Board of Directors will be held at the association's annual meeting at 6:45 p.m. June 3 at the fire station training room north of Roland.

By-law changes will also be voted on at the meeting, H.R. Stribling, Jr., chairman of the board of directors, said. Each fire contract represents one vote, which must be voted on in person by the contract holder.

Anyone interested in filing for either of the two director positions must be a fire contract holder in good standing as of midnight May 6, Stribling said. Other requirements include submitting a letter to the Liberty Volunteer Firefighters Association at P.O. Box 757, Roland, Okla. 74954, postmarked no later than midnight May 28 which includes the person's name, mailing address, telephone number, and address as shown on their Liberty fire contract. Other requirements include indicating the position for which the person is a candidate, and being present at the election at 6:45 p.m. on June 3. The posts up for election are Position 2, which is currently held by Alma O'Neal, and Position 3, currently held by Terry Nichols. Stribling said a person can be a candidate for only one of the positions.

The monthly board of directors meeting will follow the annual meeting or will begin at 7 p.m.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
