A Sallisaw woman was recently accused of embezzling more than $1,800 from her former employer.

Tana Lee Pace, 44, of Sallisaw was charged March 8 in Sequoyah County District Court with one count of felony embezzlement.

Sallisaw police reported that at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 a man came to the police department in reference to embezzlement by his employee. The man reported that the manager of his personal horseracing business, Pace, had written several checks that were not authorized by him. Pace had been fired from her job and her employer wanted to file charges. The name of the business was not listed in the police report.

Pace's former employer presented six checks that Pace had allegedly written from her employer's bank account. A deposit of $798 also showed that Pace received $398 back. Pace allegedly never contacted the victim about any of the checks written.

Pace only had authorization to write checks payable to bills for his business. Her former employer told police that she did not have permission to get money from deposits.

Pace is accused of embezzling over $1,888.54.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
