Marie Caleda McCormick, 21, was charged Nov. 27 with grand larceny. After her preliminary hearing held March 25, McCormick was bound over for trial. Her district court arraignment is set for April 24, according to court records.
The charge against McCormick stemmed from an Oct. 20 report.
At about 5:20 p.m. Oct. 20 the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office called the Gans Police Department, advising that a resident in the 700 block of West Brown in Gans needed to file a report on cash stolen from her purse.
The alleged victim later reported to Gans police officers that McCormick, who was a relative, took money out of two envelopes in her purse. One envelope allegedly contained $1,100 and the other had $1,400, the woman reported. The alleged victim confronted McCormick about the money and McCormick gave back $500 of the missing $2,500.
When questioned by police, McCormick, who at that time lived at the same home as the victim, allegedly told police that she only took $1,100 of the money so she could buy a cell phone. She said she would pay back the money owed to the victim, according to court records.
