The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department re-interviewed Heather Jones, 19, of Fort Smith and it was determined there was enough evidence against Jones to make a probable cause arrest, according to Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart.
Jones was arrested at 1:15 p.m. and is currently being held without bond in Sequoyah County Jail. Lockhart said Jones is facing child endangerment and conspiracy to commit robbery charges. Jones’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.
Jones drove Michael Clemente, 19, and Aaron Christopher Bowen, 17, to Devin Jeremiah’s home north of Roland on Feb. 27, where Clemente and the juvenile allegedly robbed and beat Jeremiah, 21.
After the suspects allegedly beat Jeremiah they allegedly took his guns and some money from the home and got back into the vehicle with Jones and her daughter.
Lockhart said Jeremiah began shooting at the vehicle with a .22 caliber rifle as it drove away.
“A shot went through the window and struck the baby in the back of the head,” Lockhart said.
Jeremiah told authorities that he was unaware the child was in a car seat in the car when he fired the shots.
Jeremiah is being charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill and second-degree murder.
Clemente and Bowen are charged with first-degree murder, including the lesser charge of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, robbery by two or more persons, conspiracy to commit robbery by two or more persons and child neglect.
