Sequoyah County District Attorney Jerry S. Moore announced Friday that Rebecca Jones, 47, of Sallisaw stipulated to an application to revoke a suspended sentence and was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections (DOC). Jones will participate in the "Thinking for a Change" program while in prison.
Jones was arrested after Sallisaw police officers found methamphetamine in Jones' Sallisaw home. Jones had been on probation for previous drug charges.
"This county is blessed with several outstanding narcotics officers," Kyle Waters, assistant district attorney handling the case, said.
In a separate case, Moore said that Ron Byrd, 50, of Springdale, Ark., pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 12 years in the custody of DOC.
Byrd was arrested after a traffic stop by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) yielded over 200 grams of crystal methamphetamine. Trooper Kyle Henson asked for and received permission from Byrd to search the vehicle after Henson noticed several inconsistencies in Byrd's travel plans, Moore said.
"The OHP does an outstanding job in removing a large amount of narcotics from our roadways," Waters noted.
