Chamber President Dwight Spencer said the committee will develop a new job description, advertise the position to attract candidates, do initial interviews and reference checking, evaluate the local chamber in comparison with 18 other chambers in Oklahoma cities with populations under 20,000, and narrow the candidates to three.
Once the search committee narrows candidates to three, they will be interviewed by the entire chamber board, which will make the final selection.
Wednesday's action follows the resignation of Don Elwick, who has been chamber executive vice president for 18 years. Elwick resigned, effective May 31, to join his family's local business.
Spencer chairs the search committee. Other members are Jeff Mayo, chamber vice president; Mike Neer, treasurer; Sallisaw Mayor Shannon Vann; and Terri Daniels, who will represent the Sallisaw Improvement Corporation.
