The Old Sallisaw High School has been vandalized once again.
Another large brick from the memory walk has been stolen--this time it is the Class of 1979 brick with the running Diamond on it located at the top of the walk. That makes three large bricks taken from the school.
Apparently no one had any respect for the old school or anything historical. Let's see, there are still some historical buildings in the city, and they have bricks. The First Baptist Church has a corner stone that would make a nice door stop. And how about Sequoyah's Home? There are a good many bricks and rocks there that would look good in someone's garden?
Why do people feel the need to take something that does not belong to them and destroy something?
Someone said that maybe the other two bricks were taken by the people who bought them-- well it is my understanding and I have purchased three smaller bricks - that these were donations made to the school and became property of the school. So whoever took these stole them. They are thieves and have vandalized property that does not belong to them. Why would anyone want them?
It makes you sick to think that there are people living in this town who have so little regard for things that are part of our history. I have lived in this town all my life and am very ashamed of what is going on.
I am sure some think it is funny or "who cares." Someday, you too will have something you care about destroyed and vandalized, and then you will know how it feels. I hope that does not happen, but I fear it will.
Something needs to be done to secure the ones left or there will be none left.
