Golfers Robert Raborn and Jacob Bartel both finished among the leaders on Friday while leading tournament host Sallisaw to the championship of the Black Diamond Invitational.

The annual event was originally scheduled for Thursday at Shadow Creek, but the threat of stormy weather forced organizers to postpone it until the next day.

On a cloudy and cold afternoon, Raborn and Bartel had the lowest rounds of the day for Sallisaw, which defended its team title from 2007. The Diamonds were the runaway winners on Friday with a four-player score of 310 as they topped runnerup Hilldale by 20 strokes at the 15-team tourney.

Raborn, a freshman, had a strong debut in his first appearance at the Black Diamond Invitational. He fired a 72, finishing one stroke behind medalist Steven Drain of Stilwell in second place.

Bartel, the defending Class 4A state champion, missed out on his bid to defend his 2007 tourney title but still managed to finish in a four-way tie for third place. The senior shot a 76, which was matched by Tanner Owens of Fort Gibson, Isaac Smith of Oktaha and Jonas Granel of Hilldale.

Drain shaved 14 strokes off his score from last year while winning the tournament with a 71. Among the highlights for the Stilwell standout was a shot on the eighth hole, when he chipped in for a birdie.

In addition to Raborn and Bartel, two other golfers from Sequoyah County finished among the top-10 individuals. Roland's Josh Barnes carded a 77 to get seventh overall and Vian's Nathan Harris was one stroke back in a tie for eighth place with Poteau's Kale Holton.

Barnes led Roland (350) to a fifth-place showing in the team standings. Muldrow came in seventh with a 353, Central was ninth at 368, the Sallisaw junior varsity was 11th with a 393 and Vian came in 14th with a 445.
