A man who was facing a Feb. 22 trial for multiple sexual assault charges recently pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of assault and battery and received a 12-year suspended sentence.

Larry L. Bunn, 54, of Greenwood, Ark., was originally charged May 13, 2002, in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl, who was Bunn's former relative. Bunn was charged with three counts of first-degree rape, two counts of rape by instrumentation, and three counts of sodomy.

According to court records filed Feb. 23, Bunn entered a plea of no contest to assault and battery with the intent to commit a felony. The other counts were dismissed.

Your TIMES was unable to reach the district attorney's office Tuesday for comment about the plea arrangement.

According to court records, the girl reported in April 2002 that she had been living in Muldrow when Bunn sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions starting in 1998.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
