Jay L. Limeberry, 30, was admitted to Sparks Regional Medical Center with head, arm, internal trunk and leg injuries, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported. Limeberry was listed in serious condition.
OHP Trooper Jeremy Weedon reported that Limeberry was on foot along the south side of the highway where a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche was parked facing west on the eastbound side of the highway. Weedon reported another vehicle was being unloaded from a trailer on the eastbound side of the highway.
Natasha M. Bowman, 23, of Sallisaw was driving a 1991 Ford Taurus east when she "observed what she thought was a vehicle approaching from the west in her lane of traffic and swerved off the right side of the road." Bowman's car then struck another vehicle parked on the side of the road, a 1960 Dodge, which had no driver or passengers, Weedon reported.
Bowman's car then traveled another 121 feet to the east and struck Limeberry, who was thrown about 32 feet by the impact, Weedon reported.
After Bowman's car struck Limeberry, it traveled another 40 feet and struck another parked vehicle, a 1987 Toyota, which also had no driver or passengers.
Weedon reported Bowman's car then traveled another 202 feet before coming to a stop.
Bowman and a passenger in her car, Jessica M. O'Neal, 18, of Muldrow, were not injured, Weedon reported.
Weedon reported it was raining at the time of the accident, and seatbelts were in use in Bowman's car.
