A pre-termination hearing scheduled Monday for a suspended Vian School teacher has been postponed.

Superintendent Lawrence Barnes confirmed Monday that the Monday night pre-termination hearing for high school teacher Tracy Boshers has been reset for Tuesday, the same date as a pre-termination hearing for another suspended teacher, Jennifer Cowart. Barnes said Bosher's attorney had a scheduling conflict and could not attend the hearing.

Last month the Vian School Board reviewed recommendations for the dismissal of Boshers and Cowart and set pre-termination hearings. Boshers has been a Spanish teacher at the high school and middle school for over 10 years. Cowart is in her seventh year as a high school math teacher.

The two are currently suspended with pay and benefits. No details about the circumstances surrounding the hearings have been released.

School officials indicated last month that the hearings were separate from an ongoing police investigation into alleged inappropriate relationships between students and school employees.

Vian Police Chief Danny Hoover said Monday that his investigation of one of the cases is still underway. Last month Hoover indicated that a report on one of the teachers has been submitted to the Sequoyah County District Attorney's (DA) Office for review.

As of Monday morning, no charges have been filed against any school employee, according to court records.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
