A Vian man is facing an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge after allegedly stabbing another man in the side during an argument.

Thomas Phillip Brown, 47, was charged Feb. 24 in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison or one year in the county jail.

According to court records, Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Rick Carter interviewed the stabbing victim at the Vian Police Department on Feb. 23. The stabbing allegedly occurred at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 22

The victim reported that Brown, with a shotgun, had come to the home of the victim's deceased parents to stay. After two days, the victim and his brother allegedly asked Brown to leave, but Brown refused. The victim reported that Brown began pushing his brother so the victim pushed Brown, who fell down. As Brown was falling, he allegedly stabbed the victim in the side with a silver lock-blade knife that was about four inches long, according to court records.

After the stabbing, Brown allegedly got up and went inside the home, and the victim and his brother left the home and went to the hospital. The victim reported that he and his brother assumed that Brown was going inside the home to get the shotgun.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
