Four Sequoyah County eighth grade students attended the 2004 Youth Power Energy Camp at Canyon Camp in Hinton recently, Cheryl Mills, marketing and member services representative, said.

The students are S. Ryan Dodd, son of Steve and Michelle Dodd and Lauren Drake, daughter of Danny and Lisa Drake of Sallisaw, both students at Central School; Ashley Singleton, daughter of Lesliee Singleton of Sallisaw; and Jessica Wood, daughter of Dale and Jana Wood of Sallisaw, both students at Sallisaw School. Mills accompanied the students to camp.

Each year Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative Inc. along with Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives, sends eighth grade students to the camp to help develop leadership skills, have summertime fun, and at the same time, learn about one of rural America's most important industries - rural electrification, Mills said

The four students attending the camp this year enjoyed the pleasures that Canyon Camp had to offer. The activities included volleyball, swimming and hiking. They visited one of the largest generating facilities in Oklahoma at Anadarko where they experienced first-hand the exciting world of rural electricity, watched safety demonstrations, climbed a pole, and took bucket truck rides.

The students had the opportunity to sharpen leadership skills by working with new-found friends from every corner of the state in setting up and running their own cooperative businesses.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
