COWETA - Robert Crawford and Danny Blanco led a second-half charge for Victory Christian as the Conquerors pulled out a hard-fought 60-56 win over Roland in Saturday night's Class 4A Area IV consolation championship game.

The Rangers were looking to get back to the state tournament for the first time since the 1999-2000 season, but those hopes were dashed as the No. 12-ranked Conquerors overcame an early deficit to stop Roland one win short.

The second half featured three lead changes and several ties, but Crawford and Blanco combined for 29 points in the third and fourth quarters to put Victory Christian over the top.

Crawford, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, had 17 of his team-high 21 points after the break. Ten of those came during a 12-4 run that carried Victory into a 51-45 lead with 4:50 remaining.

Robert Thompson tried to bring the Rangers back, hitting a three-point shot at the 1:57 mark to get Roland within 55-54, but the Conquerors sank five free throws in the final moments to seal the win.

Thompson wrapped up a sensational three-game run at the area tourney with 24 points and 24 rebounds-both of which were game-highs. The Roland junior netted 19 of his points in the second half to keep the game close.

Nick Mooney finished with 10 points, Wes Just nine, Coty Biles six, Brandon Serjeant two, Heath Matlock two and Cameron Sevenstar one for the Rangers.

Blanco ended up with 16 and Jonathan Wilson had another 10 points for Victory Christian, which improved to 25-4 while bouncing back from a loss to Fort Gibson the night before in the area championship game.

Roland ended its season with a record of 25-3, but not before giving Victory Christian a tough time on Saturday night. Biles buried a three-point shot and Thompson added four free throws as the Rangers stormed to an 11-2 lead in the opening five minutes.

Victory Christian rallied to within 11-7 by the start of the second quarter and had the game tied late in the half before Matlock scored from inside the lane and Thompson made a free throw to give Roland a 23-20 halftime edge.

The lead went back-and-forth during the third quarter, but Thompson scored 13 of the Rangers' 15 points to keep them within 39-38 entering the fourth. Biles drilled his second trey of the night to give Roland its final lead of the night at 41-39 with 7:35 left in the game.

The setback marked the third time in the past four seasons that Roland was eliminated in the area consolation final after Mannford stopped the Rangers in 2003 and Okmulgee beat them in 2004. A year ago, Roland fell to Hugo in the first round of the area consolation bracket.

Roland 62, Broken Bow 54 (Boys)

Broken Bow entered the game ranked No. 1 by CoachesAid.com, but saw its season come to an end thanks to a stellar effort from Roland forward Robert Thompson in Friday afternoon's consolation semifinals.

Thompson poured in 38 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Rangers to their 25th win of the season. Broken Bow ended with a record of 23-5.

The Savages closed the first half with an 8-0 run to grab a 33-32 lead, but Roland held them to 1-of-12 shooting in the third period while surging into a 48-36 advantage. Nick Mooney had nine points and Thompson scored the other seven during the 16-3 run that put Roland in control.

Broken Bow got as close as 54-51 with 2:08 left in the game, but Roland converted 6-of-10 free throws to clinch the win.

Mooney finished with 17 points, while Wes Just and Coty Biles added four each for the Rangers.

Broken Bow was led by 14 points from DeWayne Willis. Arten White added 12 and Maurice Rutherford 11.
