Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Corporation (AOG) recently filed to lower AOG's gas cost to AOG's Oklahoma customers.

This filing at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC) reduced AOG's cost of gas to customers from $0.8194 per hundred cubic feet (CCF) to $0.7059 per CCF, a reduction of $0.1135 per CCF, or about 14 percent.

This reduction in gas costs will be reflected on bills sent to customers from April 1 through Oct. 31.

Michael C. Carter, AOG president, said, "Natural gas utilities in Oklahoma recover the actual gas costs directly from customers with no mark-up on the purchase price of the natural gas. Nationally, gas prices have been, and continue to be, very volatile in nature. However, there has been a recent decline in the price of gas purchased by AOG, which will result in the lower cost of gas to AOG customers."

Carter said customers are encouraged to insure their homes and businesses are as energy efficient as possible in order to reduce the cost to heat and cool those facilities. "Customers can stabilize their natural gas bill by signing up for AOG's leveled billing program, the average monthly payment plan (AMP)," Carter said. "This plan averages the customer's usage over the last 12 months, and effectively eliminates dramatic swings in natural gas bills from summer to winter seasons.

"Residential customers can also receive assistance in paying their home heating bills by contacting AOG's office for the address and phone number of local agencies which provide heating cost assistance."

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
