The district court arraignment for a Muldrow man who was arrested in September on first-degree rape charges has been rescheduled for mid-May, prosecutors said.

Troy Leon Flinn, 53, of Muldrow is facing two charges of first-degree rape. He has been held in the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on a $250,000 bond since his arrest by Sequoyah County Sheriff's deputies.

Jeff Sheridan, Sequoyah County assistant district attorney, said Flinn's arraignment was pushed back for further forensic testing. Flinn was originally set to be arraigned Monday.

Sheriff's deputies reported in September that the arrest was made after a juvenile family member reported an alleged sexual assault.

According to court records, the mother of the 8-year-old victim told police that her daughter had been complaining about not being able to go to the bathroom because of pain.

The victim allegedly told her mother that her uncle, Flinn, had "messed with her and done gross things to her." The mother took her daughter to the emergency room in Fort Smith, Ark., where an exam revealed that her injuries were consistent with rape. The girl told police that Flinn had assaulted her on two or more occasions at her grandfather's house and at her home.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
