The Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce has received 12 applications to date in its search for a new Executive Vice President, Dwight Spencer, chamber president, said. "We have run ads in the local newspapers, and the job posting is being distributed by the Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas Chamber of Commerce Executive Associations," he said.

Former chamber Executive Vice President Don Elwick resigned on May 31 after 18 years of service.

Spencer said a search committee is meeting weekly to find Elwick's replacement. "Myself; Mike Neer, chamber treasurer; Jeff Mayo, chamber vice president; Terri Daniels, chamber and Sallisaw Improvement Corporation board member; and Sallisaw Mayor Shannon Vann make up our search committee," Spencer said.

"Besides developing our job posting, we are reviewing resumes we have received and reworking the job description to meet the chamber's needs. Our tentative deadline for receiving applications is June 30."

Spencer said the chamber is also working to find a new place to relocate the chamber office. The City of Sallisaw informed the chamber last month that it will have to move from its present location on the first floor of City Hall to accommodate new customer service personnel and equipment for the upcoming city fiber optic system.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
