Van Edward Bergen Jr., 30, of Morrow, Ga., was sentenced in federal court in Muskogee after pleading guilty to one count of a two-count indictment. Bergen was sentenced10 years and one month on a charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base. He was also sentenced to a five-year term of supervised release and ordered to pay a $100 assessment.
D. Michael Littlefield, assistant U.S. attorney who prosecuted the case, said the charges resulted from an investigation by Agent Doug Kidwell of the Drug Enforcement Administration after a traffic stop by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Shawn Griffey. The stop occurred on Feb. 28, 2003. After Bergen gave the officer consent to search the vehicle, Griffey uncovered 10 kilograms of cocaine and seven kilograms of marijuana.
