It was all Sallisaw on Thursday at the Black Diamond Invitational as the host team ran off with the championship and crowned the individual medalist as well.

Jacob Bartel took top honors on a cool, breezy day at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Sallisaw. The Black Diamonds' junior was the only golfer to break 70, firing a 68 to win the annual tournament by three strokes over runner-up Josh Boswell of Wagoner.

Bartel had previously placed second at the Black Diamond Invitational as a freshman before last year's event was rained out.

He was joined in the top-10 by Sallisaw teammate David Nguyen. The junior came in sixth place overall with a score of 75.

Bartel and Nguyen helped the Diamonds defend the tournament championship they won in 2005. Max Knoke shot an 82 for Sallisaw and Derrek Branham had an 83 as the Diamonds posted a four-player score of 308.

That was good enough to win the tournament by a dozen strokes. Fort Gibson finished second in the team standings with a 320 and Hilldale got third with a 325.

Roland was the highest placer behind Sallisaw among Sequoyah County schools. The Rangers were led by Josh Barnes' 83 while taking 10th with a 358.

The Sallisaw junior varsity squad came in 12th with a score of 368 after Quentin McKinney shot an 87.

Muldrow was 13th at 376. Jamey Day had the best round for the Bulldogs, shooting a 90.

Vian came in 15th in the team standings, but the Wolverines had one of the top-10 individuals. Nathan Harris carded a 76 to pace Vian and claim seventh place overall.
