Superintendent Lawrence Barnes said the board wants to have a special board meeting to discuss filling seat No. 3 on the board, which was vacated by Jack Rosenberg at the end of January. Rosenberg, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, moved to the Edmond area. He had two more years left in his term.
In other business, the board re-organized. James Simmons is the board president; Bill Reynolds is vice president; and Patrick Sullivan is clerk.
The board approved payroll, encumbrances and transfers, bids for communication services, and the updated Comprehensive Local Education Plan, which is a six-year plan that is reviewed yearly.
Barnes said the board also approved an annual attendance stipend for certified employees. He said the stipend is an incentive for teachers not to take off from work. Teachers receive $20 a day for each of the sick days they did not use at the end of the year. In order to receive the stipend, the teachers must accumulate a certain amount of days.
The board approved the 2006-7 school calendar, seven fundraiser requests, and re-employed 71 certified teaching staff for the 2006-7 school year.
The board also accepted the resignations from two retiring teachers, effective at the end of the 2005-6 school year. Barnes said the board accepted the resignations of Rema Isham, second-grade teacher, and Ruth Ann Hodges, high school English teacher.
