Philpot said sheriff's deputies first responded to the report of a drowning at Eagle Bluff located in Tenkiller State Park. Upon arrival at the park, deputies met with park rangers already at the scene.
Deputies learned that three suspects who were later arrested had come up to the lake with the girl for the day. The three told officers that they had left the girl at Eagle Bluff and when they returned, she was gone.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that Brook Leigh Fagundes apparently fell off the cliff at around 4:15 p.m., struck her head on a rock, and fell into the water. Fagundes was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries, the OHP reported.
Philpot said officers conducting the investigation reported that divers who were staying at the park volunteered their services to search the waters below the bluff for the missing girl. Divers recovered the girl's body in about 58 feet of water.
Fagundes' body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Tulsa for an autopsy, Sheriff Philpot said.
Bailey Jonathan Roberts, 19, and Joshua Aaron Henry, 18, both of McAlester, and Shell Tidwell, 19, of Savannah were arrested as a result of the investigation.
Philpot said all three were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and public intoxication. The bond on each was set at $2,500.
Philpot said his office, Oklahoma State Parks and Tourism, and the OHP were involved in the investigation.
