Sallisaw's next community blood drive will be held from 7 a.m. to noon Friday at Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative.

For an appointment to donate call Cheryl Mills at 775-2211 or Tammy Moreland, donor recruitment representative for United Blood Services in Fort Smith, Ark., at 1-800-934-9415. The electric co-op is located at 1800 KOA/Power Dr., west of U.S. Highway 59 on Sallisaw's south side.

Moreland said walk-ins are also needed. A free T-shirt will be given to each donor giving blood.

"By giving blood, a donor helps replenish a community resource used by a neighbor, relative or friend," Moreland said. "The donation gives tomorrow's patient the same recovery opportunity as today's patient, because it assures that blood is on the hospital shelf when it's needed."

Moreland said volunteer blood donors must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
