Sequoyah County Commissioners approved paying for engineering services for bridges to be replaced in District 2, the western portion of the county.

District 2 Commissioner Lewis Warren said he had four bridges in the planning stages, and the engineering services were for the final plans for three of the bridges.

The commissioners also approved designating all county banks as depositories for county funds, including Armstrong Bank, Arvest Bank, First National Bank and National Bank of Sallisaw.

Mary Scheele, a rural Muldrow resident, said the minutes from the July 19 meeting were incorrect, and asked that they be correction. "There is noting in the minutes about my questions about the workmen's compensation or other insurance payments," Scheele said.

Scheele asked at the last meeting if the insurance payments had been made. County Clerk Donna Jamison said all payments had been made.

The commissioners tabled approval of the minutes until Scheele's comments could or should be added.

Scheele also asked if a list of all past-due accounts had been provided, as she also requested at the previous meeting.

District 1 Commissioner Bruce Tabor said the list was not available. "Just didn't have time to do it," Tabor said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
