The fourth annual Ride to Remember Our Veterans and Military Poker Run will be held Sunday and will begin at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4518, three miles north of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59. The event is supported by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. The first bike will leave at noon and the last will be in at 4 p.m. The cost is $15 per hand, $20 with a meal, couples get two hands and a meal for $35, and an extra chip going out is $5, and dinner only is $5. Prizes will be awarded to the most points winner and the lowest points winner, and 100 percent of the profit goes to Fisher House which supports U.S. troops. The annual Senior Citizens Fish Fry will be held Friday at the Sallisaw City Park behind the swimming pool on Redwood Street. Catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw, beans, cobbler and lemonade will be served. Area agencies will have booths set up, door prizes will be given away and entertainment will be provided. All those age 60 and over are invited to attend. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. The event is sponsored by the Sequoyah, Adair and Cherokee Counties (SAC) Nutrition Program, and is supported by SAC employees, city and county officials and workers, area businesses and medical agencies, the Cherokee Nation, singing groups and volunteers who cook and serve the meal. The Country Time Jamboree Band will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Gospel Music Barn, one mile west of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 64, behind the old Synergy Gas building. Admission will be $5.
The 34th Gans High School reunion will be held Saturday, May 24, at Gans High School. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and activities will continue through 2 p.m. The reunion is for former students, teachers and employees of Gans High School. There is no charge for the reunion other than lunch, which will be $10 per person. TACO (Tenkiller Area Community Organization) will hold its monthly meeting at the TACO Building on Mullens Lane in Cookson on Tuesday, May 27. The annual Asbill family reunion will be held at the Poindexter Family Bluegrass Barn at Northview on Sunday, June 1. The family reunion coincides with decoration at the Northview Cemetery. A free country music show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Bluegrass Barn and is open to the public. The barn is 12 miles north of Sallisaw on U.S. Highway 59 and east on the blacktop road for about three and a half miles.

Sallisaw Public Schools Summer Food Program will run from June 2 through July 11 at the Eastside Elementary Cafeteria at 1206 E. Creek. Breakfast will be served from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday and lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The food program is free to all students age 18 and under. Public transportation is provided and bus pickup will be at 11:45 a.m. daily at the corner of Elm and Choctaw Streets.
English as a Second Language Classes will begin at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, and will be held for nine more weeks, at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization (MCCO) Activity Center in Muldrow. Spanish-speaking citizens will be taught English by Marian Morgan of Muldrow. The class is free and open to all Spanish-speaking citizens.

Officials from the Cherokee Nation will be at the Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization Activity Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on June 23 to sign up Cherokee citizens for benefits.
