Teeing off on a sunny Friday afternoon feels even better when it ensures local students will receive a college education.

Golfers from across the area are invited to take part in the Carl Albert State College Scholarship Classic Golf Tournament on May 13. The four-person scramble, 18-hole event will be held at the Shadow Creek Country Club in Sallisaw and is sponsored by Blue Ribbon Auto Group and Sallisaw Lumber Co.

Money raised from the tournament will provide scholarships through the CASC Development Foundation to students who will attend CASC Sallisaw. The CASC Sallisaw Committee for Excellence is currently raising funds for more than 45 scholarships, which will be distributed to students in each Sequoyah County school.

Entry fees are $50 per person or $200 per team before May 1 and $60 per person or $240 per team after May 1. The cost includes green fee, cart, gift bag and lunch for each team member. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places, closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt.

Entry is limited to the first 18 teams and is on a first-come, first-served basis. For registration information, contact Gary Folsom at CASC Sallisaw at (918) 775-6977. Forms are available at and may be returned to CASC's Poteau and Sallisaw campuses and Shadow Creek Country Club.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
