Lady Pirates dominate districts

GORE - The Gore Lady Pirates have been dominant all season and they didn't let up in the first round of the slowpitch softball playoffs.

The Lady Pirates hammered out a total of 55 hits and pushed 36 runs across home plate while winning each of their three games on Thursday in the Class 4A district tournament on their homefield. Gore didn't give up a single run on Thursday while defeating Salina twice and Ketchum once.

The third-ranked Lady Pirates ran their record to 32-3 overall and also earned a spot in this week's regional tournament.

GORE 12, SALINA 0

The Lady Pirates blew the championship game wide open with a five-run second inning as they ended Salina's season.

Dena Qualls led the offensive attack by batting 3-for-4 and belting her sixth home run of the season. She drove in five runs for Gore, which totaled 21 hits in the victory.

Kera Smith batted 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Macy Moseley was also 3-for-3. Two of Moseley's hits were doubles, her fifth and sixth two-baggers of the afternoon.

Erin Qualls, Kendra Smith and Chelsea Kizzia all had two hits each, while Caitlin Cawhorn, Candice Long, Chelsea Andrews, Lexy Ward, Holly Cordray and Kimmy Summerlin all had one hit.

Cordray got the win after pitching her third shutout of the day to push her record to 29-2 on the season.

GORE 14, SALINA 0

The Lady Pirates needed just four innings to run-rule Salina and hand the Lady Wildcats their first loss of the day.

Gore jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, tacked on two more runs in the second and then put the game away with a seven-run fourth inning.

The Lady Pirates out-hit Salina by a 31-3 margin and made no errors in the field.

Caitlin Cawhorn led the offensive explosion, batting 3-for-4 and scoring three runs. One of her hits was a two-run homer, her seventh of the season.

Kera Smith and Macy Moseley both went 3-for-3. Smith drove in three runs and Moseley hit three doubles.

Chelsea Kizzia batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Erin Qualls and Dena Qualls also had two hits each.

Kendra Smith, Candice Long, Chelsea Andrews, Lexy Ward, Jessica Caudle and Kimmy Summerlin all had one hit as well for the Lady Pirates.

GORE 10, KETCHUM 0

Dena Qualls hit a home run and a triple for Gore as the Lady Pirates eliminated Ketchum in their first outing of the day.

Ketchum was coming off a 2-1 extra-inning loss to Salina in the day's first game and was eliminated after Gore put together a pair of five-run innings in the first and third.

The older Qualls sister, Erin, had a game-high three hits and scored a apir of runs for Gore. Caitlin Cawhorn went 2-for-3 at the plate and Kendra Smith, Kera Smith, Meaghan Cawhorn, Chelsea Kizzia, Macy Moseley and Lexy Ward also had hits.
