Two Akins residents were arrested Tuesday afternoon as a result of an investigation into the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, Sequoyah County Sheriff Johnny Philpot said.

Brante Everett Scott, 35, and Shawna Renee Massengale, 27, were arrested and booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on charges of endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a precursor substance (red phosphorous), possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor child, and possession of a drug paraphernalia.

The sheriff's department and the Sallisaw Police Department teamed up to serve a search warrant at a home in the Akins community north of Sallisaw.

During a search of the home, officers found chemicals and equipment commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, and items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the use of controlled dangerous substances.

Two children, ages six and seven, were also in the home at the time of the search, Philpot said.
