Sequoyah County Sheriff Johnny Philpot said during a search of Mark Anthony Shade's home, officers found substances appearing to be methamphetamine and marijuana, along with items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution and used of controlled dangerous substances.
Offers also found substances known as "ice," which is a form of methamphetamine in its purest form, Philpot said.
Philpot said that with increased pressure on clandestine labs by law enforcement and recent laws on pseudoephedrine, "ice" is being imported into the area and is becoming more common. Philpot said officers have reported that due to the potency of the drug, there has also been an increase in reported drug overdoses related to its use.
Shade, 30, was arrested as a result of the investigation. He was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a CDS within 2,000 feet of a school, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Shade is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Philpot said the Vian Police Department also participated in the search warrant.
