A Tuesday accident on U.S. Highway 59 south of Sallisaw sent one woman to the hospital after she was pinned in her vehicle for about 30 minutes, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

The accident occurred about 4:48 p.m. on U.S. Highway 59 at the intersection of the county road to the Overstreet-Kerr Historical Farm .

Rocky Webb, 22, of Haskell was driving a 1999 Ford south on U.S. Highway 59 when he turned left on the county road into the path of a 2000 Pontiac driven by Charlotte Collins, 44, of Spiro, the OHP reported.

Collins was pinned in her vehicle for about 30 minutes before being freed by Spiro Fire and Rescue using the Jaws of Life. She was transported by helicopter to Saint Edwards Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., where she was admitted with leg, internal and external trunk, and head injuries. She was listed in critical condition.

Webb was not injured in the accident.

The OHP reported that Webb and Collins were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
