Matlock was one of several Sequoyah County athletes to earn a trip to the upcoming state meet and she did so in three events for the third year in a row.
The junior sprinter won the 100 and 200-meter dashes and placed second in the 400 while piling up 28 team points for the Lady Rangers. Matlock ran the 100 in 12.34 seconds, which was a fraction of a second off the school record of 12.33 she set the week before at the Inola meet.
"She's run her two best times ever at the past two meets and she had to run six times at the regional," said Roland coach Richard Pratt.
Despite the busy afternoon, Matlock was able to set new school records in the 200 with a time of 25.53 seconds and the 400 with a 58.92.
"Katie broke her old 200 and 400 school records and I hope she breaks them again next week. This is her third time to go to state and she usually runs her fastest times there," said Pratt.
