Those seeking the posts of court clerk, county sheriff, county clerk, and District 2 county commissioner will file for candidacy starting Monday.

The 2008 candidate filing period for county offices will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Sequoyah County Election Board in Sallisaw.

A county election board official said Thursday that the filings for the four county positions will be done at the county election board, located at 117 S. Oak in Sallisaw.

The filing period for state and federal offices will also be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the State Election Board in Oklahoma City, Michael Clingman, State Election Board secretary, said.

Candidates who will file with the State Election Board include the following:

- Federal: U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative

- State: Corporation Commissioner, full term, and Corporation Commissioner, short term

- Legislative: State Senator and State Representative

Clingman said filing with the state board at the State Capitol Building in Oklahoma City include candidates for the 24 odd-numbered State Senate Districts, all 101 State House of Representatives districts, five Congressional districts, one U.S. Senate seat, and two Corporation Commission offices.

Names of candidates who file with the State Election Board will be posted on the State Election Board's Web site at www.elections.state.ok.us.

Candidate filing information will be updated continuously throughout the three-day filing period, Clingman said.

County and local candidates who file with the county election boards will not be listed on the State Election Board site, but will be available by contacting the local county election board.

Clingman said election night results of the 2008 statewide primary, runoff and general elections will also be available on the board's Web site.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
