Inmates Considered For Parole

The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board considered nine inmates, who were sentenced in Sequoyah County District Court, at the board's meeting Aug. 17 through 20.

The inmates are: Ronald Eugene Baldwin, 38; Bruce Wayne Barnard, 39; Randy Bush, 21; William D. Dority, 29; Jackie H. Hardbarger, 27; Betsy L. Ivey, 23; Gary D. Madsen, 47; Nicholas B. Poindexter, 23; and Jerry D. Powell, 40.

Ronald Eugene Baldwin


The review of Baldwin's case was passed by the board to the next pardon and parole board meeting from Sept. 14 through 17 at the Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington.

Baldwin is serving eight sentences for robbery in 1999, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) within 1,000 feet of a school in 1999, possession of marijuana in 1999, possession of a firearm in 1999, embezzlement by bailee in 1997, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in 2000, felonious possession of a firearm in 2000 and possession of CDS in the presence of a child under age 12 in 2000.

Baldwin began serving the concurrent terms, which total 30 years, on May 26, 2000, and is presently housed at Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown.

Bruce Wayne Barnard


Barnard's sentence was commuted to time served.

Barnard was sentenced in 2003 in Sequoyah County to five years for the unlawful possession of a controlled drug. He began that sentence on Jan. 14, 2003.

He was also sentenced on two counts of possession of a controlled substance and four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled drug-methamphetamine in LeFlore County District Court.

Randy Bush


Bush was denied parole.

He is serving two seven-year substances for second-degree burglary, a 10-year sentence for possession of a precursor material and a 10-year sentence for trafficking in methamphetamine, both after conviction of a felony. He is expected to be released in 2011 if he serves the entire sentence.

Bush is incarcerated at the R.D. Dick Conner Correctional Center in Hominy.

William D. Dority


Dority was denied parole by the board.

He is serving multiple sentences running concurrently from both Sequoyah and Cherokee Counties. He was convicted of six counts of uttering a forged instrument, three counts of knowingly concealing stolen property, two counts of escape from lawful custody, one count of obtaining merchandise by bogus check, two counts of first-degree burglary, and two counts of bogus checks written for over $50.

Dority is housed in the Lawton Correctional Facility.

Jackie H. Hardbarger


Hardbarger was released providing he is treated for substance abuse.

He was serving 11 sentences of various lengths for convictions on three counts of kidnapping, possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, using an offensive weapon, and possession of a controlled substance.

He was housed at the Jackie Brannon Correctional center in McAlester.

Betsy Ivey


Ivey was released and her sentences commuted.

Ivey began serving her sentences on March 18, 2003, for five counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of uttering forged instruments out of Pittsburg County, and possession of a controlled substance.

Ivey, who was housed in the Tulsa District Community Correction Center, was released on the condition she receive psychological counseling and substance abuse treatment.

Gary D. Madsen


Madsen was ordered to take substance abuse treatment.

He was serving sentences for three counts of manufacturing CDS in Sequoyah County and two counts of endeavoring to manufacture methamphetamine out of McIntosh County. He began the sentences on Feb. 7, 2002.

He is housed at the Northwest District Facility in Oklahoma City.

Nicholas B. Poindexter


Poindexter was denied parole by the board.

He is serving sentences totaling 20 years for assault and battery with intent to kill and two 15-year sentences for robbery by force and fear. He began the sentences on Jan. 24, 2000, and his expected release date is listed as Jan. 23, 2030.

He is housed at the Davis Correctional Facility in Holdenville.

Jerry Don Powell


Powell is serving multiple sentences out of Tulsa, Pittsburg, Okfuskee, Muskogee, McIntosh, Haskell, Cleveland and Sequoyah Counties. His convictions include robbery with a firearm, escape from the state penitentiary, three counts of unlawful possession of contraband in a penal institute after former conviction of a felony, three counts of knowingly concealing or withholding stolen property after former conviction of a felony, second-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, two counts of grand larceny, possession of marijuana in a penal institution, and receiving, possession and concealing stolen property.

His expected release date is in 2012, and he is housed at the Lexington Correctional Center.
