Vian and Central were both getting beat on Friday, but Mother Nature gave both baseball teams a chance to regroup.

Heavy rains halted action at state tournament sites in the Oklahoma City area for the second-straight day and the storms seemed to hit just in the nick of time for the Wolverines and Tigers. The games will be resumed on Tuesday at the earliest, at times and locations yet to be determined.

Central, playing in the first round of the Class 2A state tourney in Shawnee, trailed Wynnewood 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning when a storm cell hit Ed Skelton Field and sent players and fans scurrying for cover. High winds blew down a fence in left field and the downpour flooded the field.

Wynnewood pitcher Duane Betts had a perfect game going and had belted a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning before the storm hit.

At about the same in Chickasha, Vian was getting its first-round game in the 3A state tourney underway against Perry under sunny skies.

E.J. Drew and Zach Truett both drove in runs for the Wolverines, but Perry opened up a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. That's when the storm moved into the area, turning the infield into a mud pit and forcing the game to be suspended.

Both ball games were one and a half innings away from being official, leaving Vian and Central a chance for a comeback when they resume play on Tuesday. The OSSAA is expected to announce the times and locations for the games by Monday morning on its Website at www.ossaa.com. The suspended games will be completed, followed by the semifinals.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
