A Vian teen is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening two Vian School principals and assaulting a police officer Thursday morning.

Malcom Jamal Brown, 18, allegedly called the school, attempting to get back in school after being expelled, Vian Assistant Police Chief Michael Thomas said. Thomas explained that at one time Brown had been kicked out of school, and had later been placed in an alternative education program, from which he was also expelled.

Brown was apparently trying to talk the high school principal into letting him come back to school, but Thomas said the principal told Brown that it wasn't an option.

"At the end of the conversation, he (Brown) started making threats," Thomas said.

Brown allegedly told the principal that he wanted to settle the situation "man to man" and he was going to come up to the school. Brown also allegedly called the middle school principal, who had problems with Brown in the past, and made indirect threats to her, Thomas said.

This is not the first time Brown has allegedly been in trouble with police or the school. Thomas said Brown has been arrested on possession of marijuana and paraphernalia charges and he also stole cameras from the school.

"He has a long history with the school...on problems," Thomas said.

Thomas said Brown's father called the school and told them that his son had been acting funny over the past few days and told police that there were weapons in the home, which Brown could have had access to.

Police contacted Brown's mother, who was at home, and learned that Brown had just left on foot, headed toward town.

Thomas said since police did not know whether Brown had weapons or not, the school was placed on lockdown.

Police, along with Sheriff's Deputy Rick Carter, were patrolling around the school when Thomas received a report that Brown was inside a convenience store across the street from the school. Thomas was the first on the scene and asked Brown to put his hands behind his back.

"We already had a city warrant on him," Thomas noted, referring to an October possession charge that Brown was facing.

"He informed me that he wasn't going to jail," Thomas said.

Thomas said Brown came toward him and a scuffle ensued before Brown was taken into custody. Brown allegedly had in his possession a small pipe with residue inside that tested positive for marijuana.

Brown was transported to the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw, where he was booked on two counts of assault and battery on a school employee, unlawfulness on public school grounds, aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and destruction of private property.
