Newt Riddle, 65, of Muldrow was charged Monday with two counts of feloniously pointing a firearm. If convicted he could face up to 10 years in prison on each count, according to court records.
Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Gude was dispatched to a home on East 1098 Road at about 10 p.m. June 10 after a report was made that there was a man shooting at a woman at the home.
When Gude arrived, he reportedly interviewed the alleged victim, who said that Riddle shot at her and then left the home. She told police that her nine-year-old grandson was present at the time of the shooting. She said that Riddle was shooting with what appeared to be a rifle. Gude located an unspent shell on the east side of the home. Gude also noticed what appeared to be a shotgun blast above the front door.
According to court records, the victim told Gude that Riddle shot at her two times. Another woman was also in the home and told police that she arrived while the incident was taking place. The witness said that Riddle also pointed the gun at her and she ran into a bedroom with the other woman.
The witness said she heard a shot from inside the bedroom. No one was injured in the incident, Gude reported.
Gude also interviewed a neighbor who said he saw Riddle pointing a gun at one of the victims and that she slammed the door. He said he heard two shots come from the woman's home.
Gude later located Riddle at Riddle's home on Slab Hollow Road. Riddle denied shooting at the woman. He claimed that he never had a gun in his possession.
Riddle was arrested and taken to the county jail. While Riddle was booked into the jail, a shell matching the one at the scene was found on Riddle.
Gude reported that Riddle and the alleged victim both had a strong odor of alcohol on their breath. Both parties had slurred speech and were unsteady on their feet, Gude wrote in his report.
