A public sale of seized weapons and other items was held April 14 by Sequoyah County District Attorney Richard Gray's Office.
Gray announced that the items and weapons that were sold were seized by his office's Drug Task Force, as well as other law enforcement agencies during investigations in Sequoyah, Wagoner, Cherokee, and Adair Counties.
Proceeds from the sale of seized items exceeded $20,000, which will be used for the investigation and prosecution of drug offenders. The proceeds are also used to assist local law enforcement agencies purchase equipment for drug interdiction purposes, Gray said.
The sale was conducted with the help of numerous volunteers from Gray's office and from a local auctioneering business. Gray said the sale was a success due to the large turnout of people who attended. There were reportedly over 100 guns for auction, with about 150 gun enthusiasts present for bidding.
To participate in the auction, a background check was completed prior to the sale to insure that all sales were made to law abiding citizens with no criminal history, Gray said.
"Most of the weapons are seized during the execution of search warrants on methamphetamine laboratories and were being used to facilitate the distribution of controlled dangerous substances," Gray said.
