The Town of Gans is seeking volunteers for a citywide cleanup planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 - all part of the Great American Cleanup in Oklahoma campaign.

Volunteers, vital to the success of this effort, should report to the Gans Town Hall at 8:45 a.m.

With the help of a cash grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, the town plans to provide participants with gloves, trash bags and lunch at the Senior Center once the work is completed. Unwanted items and trash collected during the event will be taken to the school parking lot, where the group will set up metal bins and a trash compactor truck. A burn pile for brush and other clippings will be established at the corner of Kobel and Brook Streets.

Retha Victory, event organizer, noted that all refrigerators and freezers must have the compressors removed before they can be accepted for disposal, and Victory noted that no tires or batteries will be accepted.

To register or for more information contact Victory at (918) 775-2411 or Eulis Wing at (918) 775-2237.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
