A Sequoyah County man was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw June 18 on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon stemming from the alleged assault of a Muldrow man in May.

An arrest warrant was issued in May for Paul Allen Jones, 20, and charges were filed against him on June 10. Jail records indicated that Jones' bond was set at $35,000.

According to court records, Jones, and two members of his family confronted the victim at the victim's home and began cursing at him. The victim told police he began walking away from the three men when Jones began hitting him with something on his back and on the back of his head.

Friends of the victim went to his aid, and Jones allegedly ran from the scene, according to court records.

Police reported that the victim had marks on both ears, on his back, both arms, and his left side.

Court records indicated that Jones was previously convicted of various drug charges in August 2004.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
