A Sallisaw man was charged last week with a felony assault count resulting from an alleged domestic dispute.

Lawrence Ray Knapton, 34, of Sallisaw was charged May 22 with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

On May 11 at 9:55 p.m. a sheriff's deputy met with a Sallisaw officer, who told the deputy that the police department had been called to a local business about a fight that had occurred at a home on Wild Horse Mountain.

The victim told police that Knapton came home and began drinking. When the victim tried to the leave the house, Knapton allegedly grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face while she was holding their 6-month-old baby.

Knapton alleged stabbed the victim in the arm with truck keys and slammed her arm and leg in the truck door after dragging her down the driveway by her legs. She had a stab wound on her left arm and a red puffy eye.

Knapton was initially arrested for public intoxication and booked into the city jail.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
