A Vian man was arrested recemtly on drug charges after the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at his home several miles southwest of Vian, the same home where a woman overdosed on drugs last year and died.
Keith Adams, 50, was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw at 9 a.m. May 3 on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released from jail two hours later on an $18,000 bond, according to jail records.
Adams' arrest came a little over a year after 23-year-old Brandy Buttery was visiting the same Vian home with her boyfriend when she became ill and collapsed. She was taken by ambulance to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, where she was pronounced dead.
The OSBI began an investigation into Buttery's death and first listed her death as suspicious because of Buttery's age and the circumstances. It was later determined that her death was linked to a large amount of methamphetamine that was found in her system. The cause of death was listed as an accidental overdose.
Jessica Brown, OSBI public information director, said since a person died of a drug overdose at the home, the OSBI and sheriff's office looked at that area, wondering where she got the drugs.
"We're not alleging he (Adams) had anything to do with her (Buttery's) death," Brown said.
Brown said the OSBI got a search warrant for the home and found marijuana. Brown did not know how much marijuana was found.
